More information:
Advantages of Lumineers Lumineers®* are a brand of porcelain veneers made by the Den-Mat company. They are made out of Cerinate porcelain, which is stronger than other porcelains. Because of the extra strength, they can be a little thinner than other veneers—0.3 millimeter thick instead of 0.5 millimeter.
Cautions with Lumineers®Beware of cosmetic dentists who specifically promote only Lumineers®, because they may be so focused on this one procedure they won't be able to explain all your options. Since Dr. Nelson is expert in all areas of cosmetic dentistry, he will be honest with you in telling you what all your options are. Den-Mat is sponsoring a lot of advertising, which is good in raising the awareness of the public about cosmetic dentistry. However, the advertising can also lead to false impressions. For example, the advertising implies that with Lumineers® there will be no drilling on your teeth. While this is possible in some cases, in other cases it isn't, and many Lumineers® are placed after the same type of shaving that occurs with other brands of porcelain veneers. If your tooth isn't shaved any, it will end up thicker and about two millimeters longer. If this is right for you, then fine. But you need a cosmetic dentist like Dr. Nelson, who will be honest with you about what you can expect. You may also want to read about MAC veneers, and porcelain veneers in general. We also explain the costs of porcelain veneers.Lumineers disclaimer *Lumineers® is a registered trademark of Den-Mat LLC, Santa Maria, California, and the use of that trade name is not meant to imply any endorsement by Den-Mat of this web site.
